We are all well aware of how the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has ravaged the entire world. What initially began in Wuhan, China, has now spread worldwide. Not a single continent on this earth has been left unscathed.
So far there have been 770,000 confirmed cases throughout the world, with 36,938 of those people dying. In an attempt to get the world back to being as healthy as possible, there have been several lockdowns and non-essential businesses/stores being forced to shut down.
Once professional sports players began getting the virus, nearly all professional sports leagues decided it would be best to postpone play. The NBA has been the league that has most directly affected me - and has made me realized just how much my life truly does revolve around basketball. If I wasn’t watching an NBA or college basketball game, I was playing fantasy basketball or covering a basketball game.
Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert (the NBA’s patient zero) and Marcus Smart were just a few of the NBA players that tested positive for COVID-19. Each of them all claimed that they were not feeling any symptoms and if they had not been tested, they would have never known they had it - which is a terrifying thought. In less than three weeks, they have all made 100% recoveries and did not seem to go through much pain at all. Durant, Mitchell, Gobert and Smart are all living proof that this virus is no death sentence, as many seem to believe.
The last NBA game was played on Mar. 11, and truthfully speaking, it may be months until we see another. With President Trump announcing that Americans should be indoors until at least April 30, there is no quick return to NBA basketball in sight. Until then, all we can do is enjoy highlights from throwback games.
